Wyoming
Mountain Hiking and Backpacking
in the beautiful Bighorn Mountains
and Bighorn National Forest
South Fork Mountain Lodge
provides a great starting place for hiking and backpacking in the Bighorn Mountains and
Bighorn National Forest. Just a few minutes hike from South Fork and the hiker is
presented with a spectacular view of the peaks of the Bighorn Mountains. Other
Bighorn National Forest Trailheads are within a few minutes drive of South Fork Mountain
Lodge.
Hikers and backpackers will delight in the
quiet seclusion of the Bighorn Mountains. Enjoy a day hike along the South Fork of
Clear Creek or through Circle Park. For those more ambitious, there are miles of
backcountry trails in the Cloud Peak Wilderness Area. Tie on your sleeping bag and
fishing pole and enjoy a night under the stars.
Mountain areas have abundant wildlife -
Elk, Moose and Mule Deer are commonly seen near South Fork Mountain Lodge. Spring
and early summer mountain meadows are decorated with brilliant white, yellow and blue
wildflowers. Be sure to bring a camera!
Many of the over 200 mountain lakes and
countess streams in the Bighorn Mountains are popular hiking areas. Trout fishing is
abundant in the Bighorns, so you may want to take a fishing rod on your mountain hike.
South Fork Mountain Lodge has Wyoming fishing licenses and conservation stamps
available.
South Fork Mountain Lodge & Outfitters
also provides custom pack trips and drop camps to transport hikers by horseback into the
Cloud Peak Wilderness Area where they can start their hike in the more remote areas of the
Bighorns.
